The purpose of this study is to identify the factors that venture capitalists consider before making the investment decisions in India. The study examines the effect of entrepreneurial related factors- team diversity, prior experience, passion, affiliation and creativity and business proposal related factors-novelty and scalability. A total of 73 responses were obtained from Indian venture capitalists using systematic sampling. The partial least square -based structural equation modelling and PROCESS macro were used to examine the hypotheses. The results indicated that team diversity, experience, passion, creativity of the entrepreneur and novelty of the business proposal have a crucial impact on the investment intention. While affiliation of the entrepreneurs and scalability of the business do not have a significant impact on investment intention. The perceived level of trust mediates the effects of diversity, prior experience, passion and affiliation on the investment intention. The cross-sectional data was collected from Indian venture capitalists only. For generalising the findings of the study, the proposed model can be replicated in other countries using longitudinal data. The study’s findings will help venture capitalists to set a benchmark and make better evaluation and investment decisions. Also, it will help entrepreneurs to be aware of the factors that affect the investment decisions of the venture capitalist and they could make their business plans according to these factors. Thus, increasing their chances to obtain funding. This study attempts to identify the factors the venture capitalist considers before taking the investment decisions.
