Decathlon Group is world largest sport retail group which originates from France. The brand caters
to more than 60 sports and have 1000+ stores in 35 countries. The company is heavily investing in
R&D for innovative sports products to help people indulge in sporting activities.
Decathlon has been trying to put a strong foothold in the Indian sports retail market since they
launched their first store in 2013. Decathlon Sports India from this research wanted to understand
what is the market for cycling as a sport is like in Delhi, who all are the competitors (brand & retail
stores), what is the market share of Decathlon in cycling industry in Delhi and how can they improve
their market share within the coming 5 years.
Primary information of the study was collected from the people who are practicing the sport in Delhi,
professional or amateurs. Source of collection of Primary data was questionnaires which were
floated in the different cycling communities of the Delhi. In addition to questionnaire, interviews were
also conducted with the people practicing the sport and understand which brand of cycle they were
using, amount of money they were willing to spend and what are the common route they were taking
for their rides. This will help us understand the buying pattern of customers and how much were
they willing to spend during their last purchase.
